Experts have said that the risk of debt crisis in France spreading across Europe remains low compared with the turmoil of the early 2010s. Analysts said stronger banks and euro-area safeguards make a repeat of early-2010s crisis less likely. French public debt reached €3.6 trillion in 2026's second quarter, which equals 119% of GDP, up from 115.6% a year earlier.
