Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) in Surat has installed 388 anti-suicide ceiling fans across its nine hostels as a student safety measure. The specially designed fans use a spring mechanism that tilts the fan downwards and cuts off the electricity supply when a weight exceeding 10 kg is applied. The installation covers five girls’ hostels and four boys’ hostels, with 170 fans in girls’ hostels and 218 in boys’ hostels.
