The Indian government extended the deadline for duty-free imports of one million metric tonnes of raw sugar to December 31 from October 31, ahead of festive demand, including Diwali. Industry sources said imports remain subdued due to unfavourable price parity. The government has also imposed stockholding limits on traders and introduced other measures to ensure adequate domestic sugar supplies.
