The CPI's Mangaluru taluk committee has urged the Karnataka government not to rename Dakshina Kannada district as Mangaluru district, saying the existing name reflects the region's historical legacy and linguistic identity. The Revenue Department issued a draft notification on October 1 proposing the name change under the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964.
