Indian-origin landlord stripped of Order of the British Empire after ₹3.8 cr fine. Indian-origin London landlord Nirpal Riat has been stripped of OBE (Officer of Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for bringing UK honours system into disrepute. He was fined £300,000 (₹3.8 crore) in 2023 after a case involving illegally converted properties where vulnerable tenants lived in poor conditions. He received OBE in 2011 for services to charity and Punjabi community.
