Conversion alone cannot secure backward-class quota: SC. The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a Madras High Court ruling that a person who converts from Hinduism to Islam cannot claim reservation under Tamil Nadu's Backward Class (Muslim) category solely on the basis of conversion. A bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Shree Chandrashekhar dismissed the Tamil Nadu governments challenge to the High Court verdict.
