Heavy rains battered Chile's capital Santiago and surrounding region, triggering mudslides which forced residents to evacuate. Several videos have emerged showing the mudslides sweeping cars along the streets and flooding homes. Mayor Catalina Martin said that 14.4 cm of rain had fallen in recent days, about nine times the average October rainfall, leaving the area "totally saturated".
