Louisiana terminates $2.26 bn wetland restoration project. Louisiana's Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion project, designed to reconnect the Mississippi River to the Barataria Basin to rebuild 13,000+ acres of wetlands, was terminated in July 2025. Citing a suspended federal permit and ongoing litigation, the state reduced its budget from $2.26 billion to $618.52 million. Remaining funds will support future Deepwater Horizon restoration efforts.
