The flydubai co-pilot who attacked Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar on flight FZ1073 trained in New Zealand between November 2018 and May 2019 on a student visa. New Zealand police confirmed he trained for a UK-based company. The UAE prosecutor called the attack a 'terrorist attack'. The co-pilot, believed to be Omani national Hamam al-Hammami, is in UAE custody.
