What is pneumonic plague. A lab technician at Russia’s Anti-Plague Research Institute in Siberia has died after developing pneumonia of unknown origin, raising concerns over possible pneumonic plague. A severe, rapidly progressing form of plague, it affects the lungs and is caused by Yersinia pestis. Symptoms include fever, headache, weakness, chest pain and cough, with respiratory droplets potentially spreading infection.
