What is an APK file, and how can one spot fake ones. An APK is an installation file for Android apps that can install a new app on a phone when opened. Many scams involve fake APK files but users can spot them if they are disguised as documents, or are unusually small in size. They may also contain no details of a verified company and immediately request SMS or accessibility permissions.
