Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani has announced a major change in the Agnipath scheme, under which 75% of Agniveers will be offered an additional two-year engagement period. After completing the extension, those willing can be enrolled into the regular Armed Forces, subject to objective selection criteria. The announcement comes as the first batch of Agniveers approaches the end of its four-year tenure.
