In a quiet studio in Syria, artist Youssef Kashto is preserving history the old-fashioned way: one stone at a time. Using traditional mosaic techniques, Kashto recreates scenes from Hama's rich past, transforming historic photographs, landmarks and memories into intricate works of art. His latest project focuses on the city's iconic norias, the giant wooden waterwheels that have lined the Orontes River for centuries.
