In a major boost to India's maritime surveillance and coastal defence capabilities, the Cabinet Committee on Security approved a project worth ₹40,000 crore to induct eight next generation corvettes in the Indian Navy. The government is set to sign contracts with Kolkata based Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) and Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for their construction.
