The Australian government plans to prohibit AI chatbots from fostering emotional intimacy, following concerns raised by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Australia's digital duty of care laws aim to ban AI chatbots that simulate emotional intimacy, following concerns about children forming attachments to these non-human entities. From December 10, Australia-based users under the age of 16 will be banned from Meta’s social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.
