Puri's nomination comes after the BJP left him out of its Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sabha candidate list ahead of his current term's expiry in November. Hardeep Singh Puri has been named as the BJP's candidate for the Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha bypoll, scheduled for November 12.
